A könyv születéséről

Tom Fabrizio und Don Tapping: 5S for the Office: Organizing the Workplace to Eliminate Waste with CDROM (Irodai 5S: Szervezze át munkahelyét a veszteségek csökkentésére ; CD-melléklettel)

Taschenbuch: 188 Seiten
Verlag: Productivity Press; Auflage: Bk&CD-Rom (9. August 2006)
Sprache: Englisch

Although office and administrative activities are usually 60% of the production costs in most manufacturing organizations, these areas often get excluded during Lean initiatives. To achieve Lean, office activities must fully support shop floor manufacturing operations to eliminate waste. The adoption of 5S throughout all office and administrative functions is the first step to increase efficiency.
In 5S for the Office: Organizing the Workplace to Eliminate Waste, Tom Fabrizio and Don Tapping bring the concepts of the 5S System - effective tools for the elimination of waste on the shop floor -- into the office environment. The activities at the heart of 5S for the Office (organizing, ordering, cleaning, standardizing, and sustaining all of these) are completely logical. They are the basic rules for managing any effective workplace. However, it is the systematic method with which the 5S system approaches these activities that makes it unique.
This book is a blueprint for building a Lean foundation for your office, and:
Provides detailed step-by-step implementation on how to apply 5S to your office activities. Includes forms, worksheets, and photos that will allow you to "see" the value of 5S, thereby increasing sustained support of the implementation. The accompanying CD contains blank versions of many of the worksheets that appear throughout the book. The worksheets on the CD, however, are interactive - the user can electronically enter and save information right on the particular form. Can be used as a training and implementation manual.
Readers of this book can immediately apply the concepts of 5S to their office and administrative activities, resulting in the elimination of waste, reduced production costs, and increased profits.

James R. Petersen, Jim Peterson: 5s Pocket Guide

A 5S initiative offers a cost-effective approach to enhancing safety, quality, and the work environment. It provides clear and measurable bottom-line results. This system can be especially useful in companies with ISO and QS-9000 initiatives.
Authors Peterson and Smith present a pocket-sized illustration of implementation methods and the benefits of implementation. Great for awareness training, The 5S Pocket Guide can start your company on the road to a safer, cleaner, more productive workplace.

Hiroyuki Hirano: 5S for Operators: 5 Pillars of the Visual Workplace (For Your Organization!)
Operator books are based on the principles of adult learning to meet the reading needs of a shopfloor audience. Written at the appropriate reading level, these books are heavily illustrated with photos and drawings. The text is set up with one concept for every two to four pages so that it can be easily read in chunks; headers and assists in the margin make the significance of each section stand out. Each chapter summarizes main concepts and tools at the beginning and lists application questions at the end. This particular book presents the main concepts and tools from Hirano's 5 Pillars of the Visual Workplace. Hirano discusses how the 5S theory fosters efficiency, maintenance, and continuous improvement in all areas of the company, from the plant floor to the sales office. It explains why the 5S's are important and gives the who, what, where, and how of 5S implementation.

Rolf Krüger: Das Just-in-Time-Konzept für globale Logistikprozesse (A Just-in-Time koncepció a teljes logisztikai folyamatra)
Broschiert: 378 Seiten
Verlag: Deutscher Universitätsverlag; Auflage: 1 (Dez. 2003)
Sprache: Deutsch

Kurzbeschreibung

Hitoshi Takeda: The Synchronized Production System: Going Beyond Just-In-Time Through Kaizen (Az összehangolt termelési rendszer: Just-In-Time-on túl a Kaizennel)
Gebundene Ausgabe: 263 Seiten
Verlag: Kogan Page Ltd (3. Juli 2006)
Sprache: Englisch

The objective of a synchronized production system is to harmonize all the elements of the manufacturing process based on the Just-in-Time strategy. This strategy is designed to improve return on investment in business by reducing in-process inventory and its associated costs. The process is driven by a series of signals, or kanban, which tell production processes to make the next part. "The Synchronized Production System" sets out the fundamentals of the process clearly and concisely and shows the remarkable results that can be achieved: money previously tied up in stock is released; quicker response times to customer orders, leading to increased customer satisfaction; custom manufacture to order - improving equity return by reducing risk; dramatically improved product quality. This ground-breaking book also explains how to improve performance through changes to management processes making it an invaluable reference for managers in all types and size of business.

Richard J. Schonberger: World Class Manufacturing Casebook: Implementing JIT and TQC (World Class Manufacturing esettanulmány: JIT és TQC bevezetése)
Taschenbuch: 284 Seiten
Verlag: Free Press (September 1995)
Sprache: Englisch

This casebook, designed as a companion volume to Richard J. Schonberger's World Class Manufacturing: The Lessons of Simplicity Applied, contains 26 cases that let students of WCM concepts solve actual JIT and TQC implementation problems in a wide variety of manufacturing and corporate settings. For readers with specific concerns, each case lists the topics covered (i.e., kanban, total preventive maintenance, partnership with customer) and each case includes questions on issues that companies commonly face in implementing WCM concepts. Dr. Schonberger also explains two JIT and TQC concepts not previously published -- micro-JIT analysis of shop-floor conditions by ratios and the "naturalistic" approach to quality improvement.

Gebundene Ausgabe: 255 Seiten
Verlag: Free Press (Juli 1987)
Sprache: Englisch

From Library Journal
Maintaining world competitiveness has been the clarion call for many industries in the 1980s. For manufacturing companies, improving production efficiency has been the key. This work lays out specific suggestions for improving manufacturing techniques on the shop floor. The chapters, profusely illustrated, treat topics such as quick setup, job rotation, U-shaped production lines, and preventive maintenance. In each, the author uses his diverse experience as an efficiency expert for several leading consulting houses to good advantage. However, the volume lacks a strong philosophical framework and comes off rather like a dry list of helpful hints. Recommended only for production specialists. Gene R. Laczniak, Coll. of Business Administration, Marquette Univ., Milwaukee Copyright 1987 Reed Business Information, Inc.
This volume identifies the most prominent forms of waste in factories, suggests how to combine and simplify operations, and provides practical examples.

From Library Journal
In this sequel to his popular business/quality management book, Kaizen: The Key to Japan's Competitive Success (1986), Imai offers a step forward?continuous improvement (kaizen) applied to the concept of continuous improvement in the workplace (gemba). The book reflects a definite operations bias. Indeed, Imai advocates the removal of all those peripheral things (muda) that cloud the focus of an organization. Some of the principles, such as the need for good housekeeping, seem simplistic, but Imai is on solid ground, demonstrating the practicality of gemba kaizen with a number of abbreviated case studies. The one weakness is the lack of adequate recognition of precedent setters: F.W. Taylor's Principles of Scientific Management (1912) and the work of W.A. Shewhart, W.E. Deming, J. Juran, etc. All in all, essential for business collections.?Steven Silkunas, Southeastern Pennsylvania Transit Authority, Philadelphia Copyright 1997 Reed Business Information, Inc.

Winner of the 5th Werner Kern Award for Productivity Research 2005, Kanban control systems bear a great potential to significantly improve operations. A company may reap the full benefits of kanban control only after determining an optimal or near-optimal system configuration. To do that, methods are needed to evaluate the performance and operating costs of individual system configurations. We propose an innovative construction-kit approach that enables us to build stochastic analytical models of a large class of single- and multi-product kanban systems. The presented construction-kit approach may be extended and augmented in various directions.

Andrea Back, Georg von Krogh, Andreas Seufert: Putting Knowledge Networks into Action. Methodology, Development, Maintenance
Gebundene Ausgabe: 196 Seiten
Verlag: Springer, Berlin; Auflage: 1 (November 2004)
Sprache: Englisch

Kurzbeschreibung
The concepts and theories of knowledge management and networks are meanwhile well documented. Yet there are few, if any, guidelines on how to implement knowledge management within an organization, especially focusing on how to manage knowledge in a network environment. This shows that managing knowledge in networks is a rather new and unexplored field. This book visualizes paths that allow one to make connections between theories, concepts and concrete actions. Knowledge networks are organizational forms within companies that connect key experts to share knowledge and therefore fulfil strategic goals. Managing knowledge in network environments is a fast-moving field attempting to integrate various disciplines such as human resources, organizational development, change management, strategy, information technology, sociology and network theory. This book shows how to integrate these different roots into a holistic view on managing knowledge in networks. It develops a methodology which will support the reader to move concrete steps forward towards building and maintaining knowledge networks in his organization.

Gebundene Ausgabe: 448 Seiten
Verlag: McGraw Hill Higher Education (1. Januar 2006)
Sprache: Englisch

Synopsis
A properly implemented and managed RCM program can save millions in unscheduled maintenance and breakdowns. However, many have found the process daunting.Written by an expert with over 30 years of experience, this book introduces innovative approaches to simplify the RCM process such as: single vs. multiple failure analysis, hidden failures analysis, potentially critical components analysis, run-to-failure and the difference between redundant, standby, and backup functions. Included are real life examples of flawed preventive maintenance programs and how they led to disasters that could have easily been avoided. Also illustrated in detail, with real-life examples, is the step-by-step process for developing, implementing, and maintaining a premier classical RCM program. Senior management, middle management, supervisors, and craftsmen/technicians responsible for plant safety and reliability will find this book to be invaluable as a means for establishing a first class preventive maintenance program.

R. Keith Mobley: Vibration Fundamentals (Plant Engineering Maintenance (Hardback)) (Rezgéselméleti alapok gyakorló üzemi mérnököknek)
Taschenbuch: 288 Seiten
Verlag: Butterworth-Heinemann Ltd (23. April 1999)
Sprache: Englisch

In a single useful volume, Vibration Fundamentals explains the basic theory, applications, and benefits of vibration analysis, which is the dominant predictive maintenance technique used with maintenance management programs. All mechanical equipment in motion generates a vibration profile, or signature, that reflects its operating condition. This is true regardless of speed or whether the mode of operation is rotation, reciprocation, or linear motion. There are several predictive maintenance techniques used to monitor and analyze critical machines, equipment, and systems in a typical plant. These include vibration analysis, ultrasonics, thermography, tribology, process monitoring, visual inspection, and other nondestructive analysis techniques. Of these techniques, vibration analysis is the dominant predictive maintenance technique used with maintenance management programs, and this book explains the basic theory, applications, and benefits in one easy-to-absorb volume that plant staff will find invaluable. This is the second book in a new series published by Butterworth-Heinemann in association with PLANT ENGINEERING magazine. PLANT ENGINEERING fills a unique information need for the men and women who operate and maintain industrial plants. It bridges the information gap between engineering education and practical application. As technology advances at increasingly faster rates, this information service is becoming more and more important. Since its first issue in 1947, PLANT ENGINEERING has stood as the leading problem-solving information source for America's industrial plant engineers, and this book series will effectively contribute to that resource and reputation.

What is "Lean?" Whether referring to manufacturing operations or maintenance, lean is about doing more with less: less effort, less space, fewer defects, less throughput time, lower volume requirements, less capital for a given level of output, etc. The need to provide the customer more value with less waste is a necessity for any firm wanting to stay in business, especially in today's increasingly global market place. And this is what lean thinking is all about. Lean Operations are difficult to sustain. More Lean Manufacturing Plant Transformations have been abandoned than have achieved true Lean Enterprise status. There are solid and recurring reasons for both of these conditions. The most significant of these reasons is that production support processes have not been pre-positioned or refined adequately to assist the manufacturing plant in making the lean transformation. And the most significant of the support functions is the maintenance operation, which determines production line equipment reliability. Moving the maintenance operation well into its own lean transformation is a must-do prerequisite for successful manufacturing plant - or any process plant - Lean Transformations. This Handbook provides detailed, step-by-step, fully explained processes for each phase of Lean Maintenance implementation providing examples, checklists and methodologies of a quantity, detail and practicality that no previous publication has even approached. It is required reading, and a required reference, for every plant and facility that is planning, or even thinking of adopting "Lean" as their mode of operation. This book offers a continuous improvement strategy using new "lean" principles. Eliminate wasteful practices from your manufacturing or chemical processes, increasing the profitability of your plant. Save thousands of dollars a year on new equipment by keeping your existing equipment maintained using this revolutionary method.

Kurzbeschreibung
Was können wir noch einsparen? Intelligenz ist sehr teuer! Akademiker kosten Unsummen!

"The most challenging question confronting business leaders and managers in the new millennium is not 'How do we succeed?' It's: 'How do we stay successful'?

The majority of books on Six Sigma and Lean explain only how to implement these techniques in a manufacturing environment. "Lean Six Sigma for Services" fills the need for a service-based approach, explaining how companies can cost-effectively translate manufacturing-oriented Lean Six Sigma tools into the service delivery process.

Bring the miracle of Lean Six Sigma improvement out of manufacturing and into services. Much of the U.S. economy is now based on services rather than manufacturing. Yet the majority of books on Six Sigma and Lean - today's major quality improvement initiatives - explain only how to implement these techniques in a manufacturing environment. "Lean Six Sigma for Services" fills the need for a service-based approach, explaining how companies of all types can cost-effectively translate manufacturing-oriented Lean Six Sigma tools into the service delivery process. Filled with case studies detailing dramatic service improvements in organizations from Lockheed Martin to Stanford University Hospital, this bottom-line book provides executives and managers with the knowledge they need to: reduce service costs by 30 to 60 percent; improve service delivery time by 50 percent; and expand capacity by 20 percent without adding staff.

This book offers the breakthrough program for increasing quality, shortening cycle times, and creating shareholder value in every area of your organization. Time and quality are the two most important metrics in improving any company's production and profit performance. "Lean Six Sigma" explains how to impact your company's performance in each, by combining the strength of today's two most important initiatives Lean Production and Six Sigma into one integrated program. The first book to provide a step-by-step roadmap for profiting from the best elements of Lean and Six Sigma, this breakthrough volume will show you how to: achieve major cost and lead time reductions this year; compress order-to-delivery cycle times; and battle process variation and waste throughout your organization. Separately, Lean Production and Six Sigma have changed the face of the manufacturing business. Together, they become an unprecedented tool for improving product and process quality, production efficiency, and across-the-board profitability. "Lean Six Sigma" introduces you to today's most dynamic program for streamlining the performance of both your production department and your back office, and providing you with the cost reduction and quality improvements you need to stay one step ahead of your competitors. "Lean Six Sigma" shows how Lean and Six Sigma methods complement and reinforce each other. If also provides a detailed roadmap of implementation so you can start seeing significant returns in less than a year." - From the Preface. Businesses fundamentally exist to provide returns to their stakeholders. "Lean Six Sigma" outlines a program for combining the synergies of these two initiatives to provide your organization with greater speed, less process variation, and more bottom-line impact than ever before. A hands-on guidebook for integrating the production efficiencies of the Lean Enterprise with the cost and quality tools of Six Sigma, this breakthrough book features detailed insights on: The Lean Six Sigma Value Proposition How combining Lean and Six Sigma provides unmatched potential for improving shareholder value; The Lean Six Sigma Implementation Process How to prepare your organization for a seamless incorporation of Lean Six Sigma tools and techniques; Leveraging Lean Six Sigma Strategies for extending Lean Six Sigma's reach within and beyond your corporate walls "Variation is evil." - Jack Welch. Six Sigma was the zero-variation quality lynchpin around which Jack Welch transformed GE into one of the world's most efficient and valuable corporations. Lean Production helped Toyota cut waste, slash costs, and substantially improve resource utilization and cycle times. Yet, as both would admit, there was still room for improvement. "Lean Six Sigma" takes you to the next level of improvement, one that for the first time unites product and process excellence with the goal of enhancing shareholder value creation. Providing insights into the application of Lean Six Sigma to both the manufacturing processes and the less-data-rich service and transactional processes, it promises to revolutionize the performance efficiencies in virtually every area of your organization as it positively and dramatically impacts your shareholder value.

American and European feelings towards Japanese business practices have varied dramatically through the last few decades. In the late 1970s and 1980s, a wave of fear swept through many Western leaders as they contemplated Japan's stunningly rapid rise from the ashes of World War II. Then more recently, as the 1990s and early 2000s saw stagflation gripping the Japanese economy, and knowledge-based innovation in technology and financial services bringing unprecedented prosperity to many Western countries, a feeling of vindication (and sometimes smugness) returned to those same corporate chieftains. Most recently, perhaps, the pendulum of conventional wisdom has begun to swing back to a middle position, in between the extremes of adulation and disdain: respect for the positive contributions of Japanese business culture, without blind acceptance. It's with this spirit that the authors of Lean Solutions offer their insightful observations about process design and service delivery in modern companies.

James Womack and Daniel Jones are well-recognized contributors to the lean-business movement. Lean Solutions is the consultants' fifth book together, following earlier works like Lean Thinking and The Machine That Changed the World, and springs as before from their keen interest in Japanese business methods and philosophy. What compels them to write yet another book, though, given the well-established literature on lean business?

The authors offer an intriguing description of their mission at the beginning of this latest book. Principles of lean design have in fact been adopted by many Western businesses, they acknowledge, and manufacturing quality has steadily risen as a result. Yet customers remain often dissatisfied with their experiences. The cause? To Womack and Jones, the answer rests in a myopic application of lean business principles: companies have successfully improved their manufacturing and product-development environments, but they have not had a large enough view of the overall customer relationship, and of the need for leanness in all aspects of companies' interactions with customers.

Put another way: in Lean Solutions, readers find a new and much broader conceptualization of how lean-business methods--which, to be fair to Womack and Jones, have evolved so that they can claim a global heritage as much as a Far Eastern one--might apply across entire customer experiences, rather than just manufacturing processes. The structure of Lean Solutions centers on 6 requests that the authors believe customers implicitly demand from their vendors: "Solve my problem completely; don't waste my time; provide exactly what I want; deliver value where I want it; supply value when I want it; and reduce the number of decisions I must make to solve my problems."

With a compelling mix of case studies, and illuminating thought experiments in industries ranging as widely as shoe manufacturing, health care delivery, auto repair, and grocery shopping, Womack and Jones walk readers through careful explanations of how lean thinking might be expanded beyond the factory floor to broader business problems. Lean Solutions isn't for all readers. It rests on an appreciation of the large cumulative effects that many small processes can have on business, and it requires patience from those who want to learn the secrets of lean business. --Peter Han

Kurzbeschreibung
Kunden wollen keine Bohrer, Kunden wollen Löcher!

A must read for companies that want to stay competitive
In this easy-to-read, practical guide, two top executives explain how to employ techniques pioneered by Toyota to put a business in position to bury the competition. Lean Transformation walks readers through the steps to lean, from cultural issues, to mapping for continuous flow, to right-sizing machinery and quick set-ups, to kanban and material handling, to spreading the transformation from final assembly throughout the organization. The authors draw upon personal experience gained in transforming dozens of manufacturing plants and businesses around the world. Readers benefit from real-life case histories, charts, diagrams, and step-by-step instructions. They learn about pitfalls before stumbling on them, and benefit from numerous tips illustrated by real-life examples. Imagine that within a few short weeks the productivity of workers in your company could be improved by 25 to 40 percent. Imagine that the space required for manufacturing could be reduced by 50 percent. That inventory could be cut from its current level to two or three days. And that defective returns could be virtually eliminated. These are actual results the authors have experienced. Incredible as it may seem, as their operations continue to improve, they see more and more that can be accomplished. They have come to believe that once the right culture has fully taken hold, gains such as these are only the beginning. Of course, some executives at first do not believe lean techniques will work in their particular operation. But they quickly change their minds as they read and discover what has made Toyota, Dell Computers, and other lean manufacturers so successful. All that's required are a few hours, and the suspension of disbelief. We urge you to invest this, and then decide for yourself. What would you do with 50 percent more space? How would you use the money freed by a big reduction in inventory? Would you lower your prices to take share, or would you drop more profit to the bottom line? Imagine being faced with such a choice. The amazing thing is, it can happen, and will happen to those who take to heart what Lean Transformation has to say.

Gebundene Ausgabe: 231 Seiten
Verlag: ILR Press (September 2005)

From Publishers Weekly
Mehri documents his three years working in Japan as a computer simulation engineer for a subsidiary of Toyota in this book, which is neither a satisfying social critique nor a thorough introduction to Japanese work culture; instead, Mehri provides some of both, but readers looking for either will be left wanting. The author draws on a diary he kept during his time abroad to re-create moments and experiences in and out of the office, and describes interactions with his own colleagues as well as observations of the blue-collar labor force on the manufacturing floor. Mehri argues that the dominant culture at the company is a "culture of rules," consisting of rules written on signs and in memoranda, unwritten rules that employees pick up instinctively and rules regarding language and manners "that are learned culturally, simply by being Japanese or living in Japan." Mehri explores the peculiarities of Japanese corporate life, recalling the trouble he unintentionally caused when he asked about a coffee machine for the workplace. At times, the Dilbert-esque bureaucracy at Toyota seems similar to that common among large American corporations. The author recounts his experiences off the clock, too, discussing meals he shared with co-workers and friends in yakitori places and neighborhood bars. While some of Mehri's recollections are not engaging and some parts of the book could be more fleshed out, the narrative has moments of genuine insight. In 1996, Darius Mehri traveled to Japan to work as a computer simulation engineer within the Toyota production system. Once there, he found a corporate experience far different from what he had expected. Notes from Toyota-land, based on a diary that Mehri kept during his three years at an upper-level Toyota group company, provides a unique insider's perspective on daily work life in Japan and charts his transformation from a wide-eyed engineer eager to be part of the "Japanese Miracle" to a social critic, troubled by Japanese corporate practices. Mehri documents the sophisticated "culture of rules" and organizational structure that combine to create a profound control over workers. The work group is cynically used to encourage employees to work harder and harder, he found, and his other discoveries confirmed his doubts about the working conditions under the Japanese Miracle. For example, he learned that male employees treated their female counterparts as short-term employees, cheap labor, and potential wives. Mehri also describes a surprisingly unhealthy work environment, a high rate of injuries due to inadequate training, fast line speeds, crowded factories, racism, and lack of team support. And in conversations with his colleagues, he uncovered a culture of intimidation, subservience, and vexed relationships with many aspects of their work and surroundings. As both an engaging memoir of cross-cultural misunderstanding and a primer on Japanese business and industrial practices, Notes from Toyota-land will be a revelation to everyone who believes that Japanese business practices are an ideal against which to measure success.

From Library Journal
This provocative and highly readable book summarizes five years of research by the International Motor Vehicle Program (IMVP) at MIT into the role of the autmobile industry in the world economy. The authors, all directors of the IMVP, recommend that Western automobile makers adopt the concept of lean production in all phases of automobile production. A thorough and persuasive explanation of the benefits of lean production, along with numerous examples, mainly from Japanese industry, support their recommendations. This important book offers informed insight into the auto industry; for all public and academic libraries. - Joseph Barth, U.S. Military Acad. Lib., West Point, N.Y. Copyright 1990 Reed Business Information, Inc.

A report of worldwide significance, based on a co-operative venture between MIT and the world's largest car makers from three continents. This book describes the volatile trends that will shape the motor industry of the future, and profoundly affect both business practice of manufacturing enterprises around the globe and the balance of power between East and West. The authors show in detail how Japan's innovative "lean production" methods work, why the Japanese are beating Western manufacturing, and how, through international co-operation, some of this erosion can be impaired in the future. Despite conventional doom-and-gloom wisdom, the book paints a portrait of an industry regenerating itself in a global market.

Muszaki diagnosztika

Dr. Dömötör Ferenc: Rezgésdiagnosztika I. kötet

Kinek ajánljuk ezt a könyvet?
Elsosorban a karbantartással és a diagnosztikával foglalkozó muszaki szakembereknek, de haszonnal forgathatják egyetemi, foiskolai hallgatók is.

A foszerkeszto ajánlása:

Gebundene Ausgabe: 316 Seiten
Verlag: Springer, Berlin; Auflage: 1 (2004)
Sprache: Englisch

The two-volume work "Engineering Vibration Analysis" is devoted to problems on vibration theory analysis, which is currently one of the fundamental courses in mechanical engineering departments at technical universities. The first volume is devoted to systems with a finite number of degrees of freedom and continuous systems are analyzed in the second. In the first part of each volume problems are posed and in the second part the detailed solutions to these problems are dealt with. Conventional and advanced problems requiring deeper knowledge of the vibration theory are analyzed. In particular, problems are formulated associated with the determination of frequencies and vibration modes, the study of free and forced vibrations, as well as with parametric and nonlinear vibration analysis. The problems associated with determination of critical parameters, dynamic stability and with random vibrations are also considered. The algorithms for their solutions are presented with probability characteristics calculation, and a reliability estimation (probability of non-failure operation) of the corresponding mechanical system.

Over recent years, there have been substantial changes in those industries which are concerned with the design, purchase and use of special purpose (ie critical, high-revenue) rotating equipment. Key personnel have been the victims of early retirement or have moved to other industries: contractors and end-users have reduced their technical staff and consequently have to learn complex material 'from scratch'. As a result, many companies are finding that they are devoting unnecessary man hours to the discovery and explanation of basic principles, and having to explain these to clients who should already be aware of them. In addition, the lack of understanding by contractors and users of equipment characteristics and operating systems often results in a 'wrong fit' and a costly reliability problem. "Forsthoffer's Rotating Equipment Handbooks: Reliability Optimization through Component Condition Monitoring and Root Cause Analysis" details the effective method of component condition monitoring for use as both a predictive maintenance and root cause analysis tool. It also details the major failure causes, the author's proven root cause analysis procedure with exercises and case histories, installation, pre-commissioning planning, functional testing and commissioning, preventive maintenance strategies and more. "Forsthoffer's Rotating Equipment Handbooks: Reliability Optimization through Component Condition Monitoring and Root Cause Analysis" is the last title in the five volume set. The volumes are: "Fundamentals of Rotating Equipment"; "Pumps"; "Compressors"; "Auxiliary Systems"; and "Reliability Optimization thru Component Condition Monitoring and Root Cause Analysis'". It is one of a five volume set which is the distillation of many years of on-site training by a well-known US Engineer who also operates in the Middle East. It is a practical book written in a succinct style and well illustrated throughout.

C.F. Beards: Structural Vibration. Analysis and Damping (Szerkezeti rezgések. Elemzés és csillapítás.)
Broschiert: 276 Seiten
Verlag: Butterworth-Heinemann (Mai 1996)
Sprache: Englisch

Kurzbeschreibung
Many structures suffer from unwanted vibrations and, although careful analysis at the design stage can minimise these, the vibration levels of many structures are excessive. In this book the entire range of methods of control, both by damping and by excitation, is described in a single volume. Clear and concise descriptions are given of the techniques for mathematically modelling real structures so that the equations which describe the motion of such structures can be derived. This approach leads to a comprehensive discussion of the analysis of typical models of vibrating structures excited by a range of periodic and random inputs. Careful consideration is also given to the sources of excitation, both internal and external, and the effects of isolation and transmissability. A major part of the book is devoted to damping of structures and many sources of damping are considered, as are the ways of changing damping using both active and passive methods. The numerous worked examples liberally distributed throughout the text, amplify and clarify the theoretical analysis presented. Particular attention is paid to the meaning and interpretation of results, further enhancing the scope and applications of analysis. Over 80 problems are included with answers and worked solutions to most. This book provides engineering students, designers and professional engineers with a detailed insight into the principles involved in the analysis and damping of structural vibration while presenting a sound theoretical basis for further study.

Taschenbuch: 63 Seiten
Verlag: Productivity Press (Juli 1999)
Sprache: Englisch

The goal of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) is to increase equipment effectiveness so each piece of equipment can be operated to its full potential and maintained at that level. To maximize equipment effectiveness, you need a measurement tool that can help you understand your equipment problems so you can take steps to eliminate them. The key to this understanding is overall equipment effectiveness (OEE). OEE is a crucial measure in TPM that tells you how well your equipment is running. It links three elements in one percentage: the time the machine is actually running, the quantity of products the machine is actually turning out, and the quantity of good output. OEE for Operators makes basic OEE concepts accessible to shopfloor workers - the employees who have the most to gain from tracking and improving the effectiveness of the operating equipment. This Book: Provides a basic overview for everyone involved in implementing TPM on the shop floor. Explains the importance of OEE and how it relates to the value-adding frontline work for the factory. Covers OEE concepts such as availability, performance, quality and the six big losses. Introduces tactics for reducing equipment-related losses to raise OEE - autonomous maintenance, focused improvement, quick changeover, ZQC and P-M analysis. Describes the steps of collecting and processing OEE data and reporting the results. It is the comprehensive education of all employees that ensures participation and success when reducing equipment-related losses. OEE for Operators is written for a broad audience, using simple, clear language. Special learning features include chapter overviews, summaries, discussion questions, examples and other instructional aids.

Equipment downtime can bring a lean manufacturing operation to a complete standstill. Total productive maintenance (TPM) is such a fundamental part of becoming lean because a machine failure at one step of a continuous flow process will halt all the steps before and after it. Strategies aimed at eliminating downtime are essential in any operation in which the processes require the use of complex machinery and equipment. TPM: Collected Practices and Cases provides a variety of case studies taken from articles previously published in Lean Manufacturer Advisor: the monthly newsletter by Productivity Press.
Highlights include:
Practical, in-depth description of TPM issues in a lean transformation, written in a conversational, easy-to-read style and have not been described in other publications. A large quantity of case studies unavailable from any other single source. Real-world information about the practical issues of TPM implementations. Articles categorized in three areas -- TPM Strategies, Management/Culture, and Overall Equipment Effectiveness --for easy reference.

James M. Morgan und Jeffrey K.: The Toyota Product Development System (A Toyota termékeloállító rendszere)
Gebundene Ausgabe: 377 Seiten
Verlag: Productivity Press (10. April 2006)
Sprache: Englisch

The ability to bring new and innovative products to market rapidly is the prime critical competence for any successful consumer-driven company. All industries, especially automotive, are slashing product development lead times in the current hyper-competitive marketplace. This book is the first to thoroughly examine and analyze the truly effective product development methodology that has made Toyota the most forward-thinking company in the automotive industry.
The Toyota Product Development System: Integrating People, Process, and Technology, James Morgan and Jeffrey Liker compare and contrast the world-class product development process of Toyota with that of a U.S. competitor. They use extensive examples from Toyota and the U.S. competitor to demonstrate value stream mapping as an extraordinarily powerful tool for continuous improvement.
Through examples and case studies, this book illustrates specific techniques and proven practices for dealing with challenges associated with product development, such as synchronizing multiple disciplines, multiple function workload leveling, compound process variation, effective technology integration, and knowledge management.
This valuable book:
Highlights the application of value stream mapping methodology to product development. Identifies and defines the categories of waste that are specific to the product development process. Presents countermeasures and proven practices, based on Lean principles, developed for the product development process used at Toyota. Illustrates and clarifies the methodology by presenting actual case examples at Toyota and a U.S. competitor.
Readers of this book can focus on optimizing the entire product development value stream rather than focus on a specific tool or technology for local improvements.

(Organisationsentwicklung)

Gebundene Ausgabe: 317 Seiten
Verlag: Springer, Berlin; Auflage: 1 (Mai 2004)
Sprache: Englisch

This book explains the systematic structure and practical use of the new SQC application that systematically and organizationally enhances the corporate management key for the 21st century. Departing from the conventional statistical application of SQC, this book explains the SQC application for scientific problem solving and its structural framework in which SQC is utilized for discovering the cause and effect relation from the gap between a theory and the actual, eliciting a new fact and finding, and establishing a general solution that contributes to development of innovative technology. It also reports case studies in which management technology issues were solved at a manufacturer, Toyota Motor Corporation, and verifies that: 1. Application of Science SQC promotion cycle that enables creative human resources development enhances problem solving skills of the staff and business process quality, and contributes to establishing core technology; 2. Science SQC is applicable to a wide range of business types including planning, design, engineering, production, sales, and administration. In the earlier thesis, "SQC Application for Developing Individual Techniques (1992)", the author introduced an example of "SQC Renaissance" in which SQC was effectively utilized for solving engineers' immediate problems. Further, in the thesis, "Science SQC-Innovation of Business Process Quality 2OOO)", the author proposed approaches and procedures of scientific application of SQC (Science SQC) and verified their effectiveness by introducing case studies that solved contemporary engineering problems.
